Invented in 1730 the sextant is an optical instrument used in
navigation. They measure the angle of celestial bodies above the
horizon from the observer's position. Knowing the angular elevation of
a known star, and the exact time, one can calculate the latitude
position of the observer. The sextants we offer below are all high
quality instruments made for beginners and experts alike. They are
made of polished brass, antique patina brass, aluminum alloy & many
come with their own case or display box. They are impressive gifts and
striking functional decorations.
